چکیده

The present study sought a clearer understanding of spatial memory function consequent to temporal lobe resection, and, in particular, of spatial memory function with respect to twoas well as three-dimensional frames of reference. Relative to a group of 15 control participants, a group of 15 epilepsy patients with right temporal resections demonstrated deficits of memory for locations in a twodimensional display. A group of 13 epilepsy patients with left temporal resections did not demonstrate such deficits. The right and the left resection groups both demonstrated deficits of memory for itemlocation relationships in a two-dimensional display. The right but not the left resection group demonstrated deficits of memory for item-location relationships in a three-dimensional display. The differing results that were observed for item-location relationships in twoand three-dimensional displays were attributed to differences in the way item information is bound with location information concerning twoand three-dimensional domains.

The Effect of Withania somnifera Alcoholic Extract on Learning and Memory Disturbance in a Model of Temporal Lobe Epilepsy in the Rat

Background and Objective: Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) usually leads to memory deficit. In this study, we tried to assess the effect of Withania somnifera extract on the impaired learning and memory in the intrahippocampal kainate model of TLE in the rat. Materials & Methods: Male rats (n=32) were divided into sham, extract+sham, kainite, and kainite+extract. For induction of epilepsy, unilate...

The effect of agonist and antagonist of Nociceptine/Orphanin FQ receptor on seizure and cognitive dysfunction in experimental model of temporal lobe epilepsy in male rat

Background: Temporal lobe epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder characterized by spontaneous seizures, learning and memory deficiency, loss of neurons, mossy fiber sprouting and tissue apoptosis. This study was to investigate the effect of NOP receptor agonist (MCOPPB) and antagonist (SB612111) on seizure and cognitive dysfunction and histological studies in experimental model of temporal...

Differential spatial memory impairment after right temporal lobectomy demonstrated using temporal titration.

In this study a temporal titration method to explore the extent to which spatial memory is differentially impaired following right temporal lobectomy was employed. The spatial and non-spatial memory of 19 left and 19 right temporal lobectomy (TL) patients was compared with that of 16 normal controls. The subjects studied an array of 16 toy objects and were subsequently tested for object recall,...

Effect of cerebral administration of enalapril on spatial memory in scopolamine-induced amnesia in rats

Numerous studies conducted in laboratory animals and humans indicate that angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors reinforce memory and learning. In this paper we study the effect of injection of enalapril into the cerebral ventricles on spatial memory of white mice in the double- y maze, following the induction of an Alzheimer- like amnestic model with scopolamine. To estimate the duration o...

The Effect of Alpha-Lipoic Acid on Learning and Memory Deficit in a Rat Model of Temporal Lobe Epilepsy

Introduction: Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder in which patients experience spontaneous recurrent seizures and deficiency in learning and memory. Although the most commonly recommended therapy is drug treatment, some patients do not achieve adequate control of their seizures on existing drugs. New medications with novel mechanisms of action are needed to help those patients whose sei...
